Parenting is not an easy task. You need to sacrifice your needs and your comfort to make sure that your children are safe and happy. They take care of their food, shelter, clothing, security, finance, and all small and big requirements of their kids. But does it all end here? Are parents responsible for feeding their children, forgetting them everything they want? Is providing worldly things enough for their upbringing? Or there is something more that could be done? Of course, this is not enough.

Then what is parenting?

Have you ever seen a parent buys a toy for his five-year-old kid and leave him/her with the toy? No, no parent would do that. Anyone or both of the parents will always sit with their kids and let him play in front of their eyes, so that the child may not get hurt with that toy.

Are cell phones good or bad?

Parenting is not about buying your kid the toy he wants and leaving him with that toy alone. Tough a teenager does is not a five-year-old kid who might hurt himself and parents do not need to watch over them all the time. The kid has grown up but never forget the toys are also not the same. The world has digitized, and every teenager has got cellphones with access to the internet which is the riskiest toy. No doubt cellphone has now become the basic requirements of every individual and none can deny its importance in the modern world. Your kids must have cell phones all the time so that you can be in touch with them. In an emergency, you can also trace their location. Cellphones are also a great source of learning through the internet. Many learning tasks cannot be done without cellphones, pdfs, documents, e-books have made studying easier.

Are cell phones good or bad?

Now, google classrooms have made studying more convenient than ever, students can stay in touch with each other and with the teacher which improves their analytical and communication skills. And if your kid socializes with the world through social media then it is also not bad. But the story is not ended yet. The same device which is good as heaven can be bad as hell.

Cyberbullying, harassment, abuse, sexual extortion, Online trolling, terrorism training, hacking are all the samples of the destruction of this beautiful toy. Many kids have destroyed their lives and grown into a criminal or a victim of cybercrime with these cell phones. In this world full of risky toys i.e. danger and greed, keeping an eye on your kids is as important as getting all their other right fulfilled.

Now, what to do? Take cell phones away?

No, absolutely not. Why am I saying this? Let me tell you this. Every coin has two sides and every story has two perspectives. And the truth lies somewhere in the middle. In this world of digitalization, parenting should also be digitalized. You cannot keep your kids away from a device which the main component of your life. Their life will get stuck in the middle if you take their cellphones away. And you also know that cellphones are no inevitable. If you cannot survive without cell phones, then why do you expect them to leave it despite knowing that it’s their time. They have the right to live in their own way according to their rules. If their rules are correct, then no glitters can distract them. But what about its abuses? But let me ask you a simple question. Do you remember the time when you first held a pen? You must have been told that you can write with a pen. But you always knew with the same pen you can hurt someone or even yourself. The pen will just remain a pen whatever you do with it. It all depends on you what you want from it. The same case is with the cellphones, they can take any form that you want to give them. It will always be under your control, it always was…right from the beginning.

Conclusion:

Parents should always tell their children what is right and what is wrong. You should have a close relationship with your children so that they can share all their problems with you. You must personally know all their friends and their family background. If your kid is well aware of his rights and duties and always finds you along with him ready to help, then he will never choose the wrong path.
