For any smartphone it is very important to take regular backup of your device to prevent you from losing data like photos, text message, voice memos and most important contacts that are saved in you iPhone. For this you have to do that open iTunes in your computer if that is not you can download iTunes and install it on your computer after that open iTunes on your computer and connect your iPhone to your computer using included USB cable now view your iPhone device in iTunes window which will be located in the left side of iTunes window on top left corner.

After clicking the device you will see a summery field which is a default landing page when you click on your device now click on the “Back Up Now” Button which will look like below image.It might take some time to complete the process but when it will finish you will have a complete data of your iPhone on your computer .Now in case if you lost your iPhone , you still have full data on your computer so that you can get back your data on your new iPhone .

How to take backup of an Apple iPhone using iCloud

The second method of taking backup is using Apple iCloud features for that you have to login in iCloud.com using your Apple ID.So if you forgot taking backup of your iPhone using iTunes ,it will take backup of your iPhone whenever you are connected with wi-fi network.

If you like to use icloud as your method of taking backup of your data then you need to switch on iCloud backup on your device by going to Setting > Storage & Backup.Now your device will automatically take backup of your photos, accounts, documents and setting content when it will connected to wi-fi network.

You will only get 5GB of storage in iCloud , you have to pay some amount if you want to use some extra storage on iCloud like 10GB per year, 20GB per year, 50GB per year but before you buy extra space on iCloud check your device so that you can cut out which is not so important for you to backup.

iCloud takes backup of following thing automatically :

  • Photos and videos in your Camera Roll
  • Device settings
  • App data
  • Home screen and app organisation
  • iMessage, text (SMS) and MMS messages
  • Ringtones
  • Visual Voicemail

If you have turned on My Photo Stream on your iPhone then Apple stores most recent 1000 photos from that.if you have not turned on this feature on your iPhone you can do this by going to Settings > iCloud > Photos and then tap My Photo Stream option. The important thing is that these photos will not count on storage quota of iCloud.

On the other side music and apps will not be backed up with iCloud, if you have purchased them from App store or iTunes then you can re-download them for free.
